WISDOM

Life has a way of teaching you certain lessons in your journey of life.

Swimming has always been the greatest metaphor for me in my life.

Truthfully my swim students have been some of my greatest teachers because that is when my mind opens the most, my heart opens and I am full of gratitude as I watch each student learn, have their own ah-ha moments as they see another side of themselves through the sport of swimming. The skill of swimming is never to be underestimated, it can mean the difference between joy and fear, and life and death.

BUILDING YOUR FOUNDATION

We are here to arm you with a solid foundation of tools, options, techniques, skills and FUN.

PHILOSOPHY:

You don't build a house on sand...you build it on a foundation that can withstand continued building on top of it as the building goes up.

A SOLID CONCRETE FOUNDATION is what you want.

We build your swim foundation so that as you ad more activities and sports into your life, you can do it all as you are SOLID from the bottom up.

Breathing

One of the most important things you will learn with the Surge Method is HOW TO BREATH. No, we don't wait to cover it last...we get right into it FIRST.  Truthfully, I can teach you technique all day long, but if you have no oxygen going to your brain and muscles, and you are continuously on the verge of panic, then the technique work will never really get a chance to SET IN.  Once we BREATHE correctly, keeping oxygen to the brain and your muscles it is amazing how instantaneous the ease of swimming occurs and it can now become a pleasureable experience.

You Tube Tutorials...

Swimming is not a sport that you can only learn via YouTube Videos.  We love YouTube tutorials...but truthfully you need to get in the water and experience the water.

I am sure you wouldn't want to fly with a pilot who hasn't actually flown a plane...he needs to fly the plane to learn how to do it, not just watch a tutorial.

Besides YOU TUBE isn't standing on the pool deck looking at your stroke telling you what it is you need...nope. You are guessing and that is not a recipe for success.

The learning curve occurs in the actual experience of trial/error/failure and success. It also occurs having an expert set of eyes on you giving real time feedback.

What Swimming is NOT

Swimming is NOT like other sports on land.

There are consequences if you breath at the wrong time, the water can either be your friend, or be life threatening.

How you move on land has nothing to do with how you move in and through the water.

BTW how you swim in the pool is NOT the same as how to swim in the ocean.... as there are nuances and different safety critieria and skillsets that you will need to learn to swim well in the ocean. They are not the exact same.

Come to class, you will learn more.

Where did the concept of Surge come from?

I have always looked for ways to progress, to move forward. I did find ways that were very difficult and exhausting, and other ways that almost seemed effortless.

I have paddled outrigger canoes for 20 + years. This sport took me to some of the most beautiful, tropical, and treacherous ocean conditions I have ever seen...never mind raced in.

There are many things I have learned from outrigger that actually apply to my swimming.

In the outriggers my crew (6 seats in a boat) would make conscious effort to learn the rhtymn of the ocean swells, currents and many other conditions. We relentlessly honed in the skills to perform efficiently and become the best in the world.

Our ocean knowledge and techniques were the reason why we literally would surge past our competition with less effort than the other teams. We were the best and we accumulated many titles and built a reputation of being the world's Elite.

My ocean knowledge became very advanced not only as an outrigger canoe paddler but I integrated that wealth of knowledge to my competitive swimming and open water swimming knowledge...and it was a GAME CHANGER for me.  This is where the crossover of the elite waterman skills I had acquired became the foundation of the Surge Method techniques and philosophies.

There is NO LIMIT to what you can do with a solid swim foundation!
Imagine with your new found swimming skills how many more water sports you CAN do!?! Your eyes will be opened when you are planning your next vacation and travel as you may now realize things you shied away from before, are now on the top of list of TO-DO's.
